EuroCoun

I took Computer Science in Class XII (C.B.S.E). We had C++ then and I recall the board project I did was called “EuroCoun” with some unable assistance from Ritesh Ranjan. It was about European countries.. duh.. the user would enter the name of any European country and the program would throw up a whole host of information about the country.

OK. I was bad at programming.:-)

My association with European countries from an academic perspective lay in hibernation until a few days back. I read somewhere that the Balkan nations were blah blah .. and the Baltic states did not blah blah ..

Thus was implanted a peeve towards European geo-political illiteracy. This post is an self gratiating attempt towards assuaging that peeve. Hark, self gratiating.

Nordic Countries: The Nordic countries make up a region in Northern Europe, sometimes called the Nordic region, consisting of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden and their associated territories which include the Faroe Islands, Greenland, and Åland

Scandinavia: Scandinavia is a historical and geographical region centred on the Scandinavian Peninsula in Northern Europe which includes the kingdoms of Denmark, Norway and Sweden. (Map not uploading. Blame blogger)

Baltic Nations: The Baltic is a region in Northern Europe which encompasses Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania

Balkan Nations: Countries included are Albania, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Montenegro, Greece, Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey. Moldova, Slovenia and Romania are sometimes included in the list as well. I shall devote one entire post on the Balkan nations once I myself figure what its all about!
Current political map of the Balkans. Countries firmly considered part of the region are in green; countries sometimes considered part of the region are in turquoise.

CIS Countries: The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is the international organization, or alliance, consisting of eleven former Soviet Republics: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. Turkmenistan discontinued permanent membership as of August 26, 2005 and is now an associate member. (Map not uploading. Blame blogger)

Note: Coming soon, detailed posts on Balkan and CIS. Soon rhymes with moon.
