The Lizard of Boz
Foreword: “The Lizard of Boz” was published in my college magazine in the year 2003
The Lizard of Boz
Once upon a time, in the town of Oz
Lived a young writer called Boz
Chhipki was the apple of his eye
But nobody knew why
She had this habit of falling
Could never hold on to the walling
Her figure was a lissome 2-1.5-2
Blushed Chhipki, “they were mom’s too”
In the same house lived Geck
Chhipki loved him dearly
Once had spilled the beans, nearly
Geck was kind, affectionate and caring
And had lots of courage and daring
But our Chhipki was a shy lizard
One among many girls crazy over that wizard
One of them was the cunning Paal
Who had mesmerized Geck in her jaal
Chhipki wished and wished but in vain
“Ohh.. why is he so inane”
One hot afternoon, Boz lay in his armchair
The local radio had the news on air
“Kheer Makkhan has escaped from jail”
The radio shrieked, “Police are on his trail”
Comfortable in his armchair.. Boz snored
With nothing to do
Chhipki was feeling bored
Suddenly she heard a sound
From the backgarden of the compound.
[ Enter Kheer Makkhan, brother of noted sandalwood smuggler Veer-appan ]
In a moment Makkhan was in the room
Boz snored, unaware of his impending doom.
Terrified Chhipki dashed across the wall
But she did what she always did, fall.
Plop! Chhipki fell with her supine grace
On Makkhan’s head, her tail on his face
Aaaiiggg.. Makkhan let out a scream
And Boz woke up from dream
Quickly Makkhan was overpowered.
Boz laughed… “Ha ha ..You coward”
The next day…..
Chhipki was the talk of the town.
The local paper read, “Makkhan the clown”
That was it… Geck was impressed
“I was completely blind” he confessed.
Geck said it all with his one kiss
And soon enuff they were in marital bliss
Well .. well .. that’s all that was
And Chhipki’s love had found a cause
Hence I take my final pause
From the story of the lizard of Boz !
