Raj

Raj as in Thackeray and not the erstwhile British Raj or the rural Panchayati Raj. The undisputed, unparalleled villain of Maharastra state politics, slowly spreading his fame beyond the state boundaries. But this is not an addendum to the constant diatribe against the 41 yr old Thackeray scion. It's quite the opposite.

My fingers have been itching sinces a very long time to debut my blog posts on this phenomenon called Mr. Raj Thackeray. He caught my eye during the North Indian attacks for which he was ceremoniously imprisoned. No, what caught my eye was the gait, the ruthlessness in his confident walk, the duniya-jaye-tel-lene attitude when he got ceremoniously imprisoned. Since then I have made myself available to listen to all happenings coming from Rajville. And I do not dislike the man at all.

In a rare defence offered for him (entirely my personal thoughts), the man's one of a kind. Its just that he has the wrong end of the stick in his hand. The day he learns to raise himself above meagre issues like 'Marathi Manoos' and espouse a far widespread, all encompassing, holistic and national issue, I am certain he will make a difference. He is a very very right man currently doing the wrong thing.

In the Maharastra assembly today, MNS MLA's physically abused SP MLA Abu Azmi for taking the oath in Hindi. MNS gang insisted that all MLA's should take oath in Marathi. I was amused at this event only because of the particular victim. I will leave it at that! Go figure yourself. Now, getting back to Mr. Enfant Terrible, if all the MLAs in the states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra take oaths in their state language, why should Maharashtra be different. Let's keep the cosmopolitan shit argument aside. If Raj Thackeray was completely insane with wrong issues in his plate then he would not have achieved the kind of electoral success MNS showed. 13 seats on debut is rockstar performance. And numbers are everything in politics. Inspite of the whole wide world hating him, he has performed. He is like Che Guevara, ruthless.

I wait for the day when the stick is turned in his hands.

"He is a very very right man currently doing the wrong thing."

So is said of Hitler and Osama and all the 'great' villains of the world.

True I agree they are/were right men whose wrong end of the stick kept getting wronger and wronger. I hope RT does not go down this path as well. My prediction is he wont. Anyways makes a good gossip for us :-)

Well he performed in the election. No dobt in that .But it only shows, the mentality of the Marathi voters, specially in Bombay.Look at his performance in rural areas, where MNS has to even lose the deposit. In the begining,Hitler also had great support of his own public.

Winning an election only prove that the public has endorsed his viw.But the view itself may be wrong.

"My prediction is he wont."
- The premise for this prediction would make for an even interesting post.

Agree with Fighter Jet.Also - "And numbers are everything in politics."
True, Politics is just a game of marketing. Everybody hates the colas but they still sell more than fresh juice. Unfortunately cola still isn't not good for you. The failure of democracy and elections is demonstrated so clearly in simple TV game shows like singing idols and dancing stars. The winner isn't the best man.

His electoral success has nothing to do with his mass-appeal...you know how elections are won in bombay, don't you?

@ FJ - The fact is that a distinct majority of Maharastrians traditionally living in Mumbai since generations do feel strangled because of the influx of outsiders. One could argue that they should have elevated their socio-economic and intellectual status, but they couldnt. This is a separate issue alltogether. However, in my own family I have vocal supporters of the 'Marathi Manoos' agenda perpetrated by the Sena and it's offshoot MNS. So it may not be conclusive to think the issue to be entirely wrong.

@ NN - the premise :-) is more of wishful thinking. I want the guy to get some sense in his head. As I maintain, he IS the 'right man'

@ Radha - I am not sure I understood you there. If you are saying his mass appeal is poor, then I disagree. If you are saying he rigged elections or used goons to force people to vote for MNS, partly agree partly disagree. It is correct that ALL MNS MLA are inveterate hardliners and thugs but their electoral success is because they have cannibalized their parent Shiv Sena. If you scratch the surface a bit and analyse the vote shares, if MNA did not exist and assuming their votes got transfered to Shiv Sena then the Sena BJP combine would have won more seats than Congress NCP.

Same was the case with Balasaheb Thackeray. Nephew is just following the footsteps of uncle. Where is uncle? Same will be the case with him unless he doesn't change his way. Live and Let Live.
