So Dark The Con Of Man

I saw Da Vinci Code.

Since the world is agog so shall I be.

The whole brouhaha about DVC can be dichotomised into thrill and controversy. The book has 100% thrill and 100% controversy. The celluloid manifestation is 30% thrill and 70% controversy. In fact, I was amazed that very little censoring is discernable. The meeting of Teabing, Sophie and Robert at Chateau Villette has been depicted as precisely as Dan Brown could have wished for. What I sorely missed was the excitement in unravelling the anagrams and the keywords to the cryptex.

The end is disappointing. In fact, it is distorted. I dont recall reading the entire priory coming to Roslin and witnessing the reunion of Sophie and her grandmother. Her brother's identity is not revealed at all, which to me was damn disappointing. If you choose to look at it, the entire drama is because Sophie was estranged from her grandfather Jacques Sauniere. I wish Ron Howard had added the Titanic feel to the movie by stressing a bit more on Sophie.

Tom Hanks is a shadow of what he was in Saving Private Ryan, Forrest Gump et al. But the characters per se are not important, the plot is. Another disappointment was the treatment of Teabing. The suspense of the Teacher is entirely missing in the movie.

All said, a must see and OFF COURSE a must must read :-)
