I have been a keen impartial observer of the American Presidential Elections for almost an year now. My congratulations to Mr. Obama on a thumping landmark victory.

Watching his family on podium, my thoughts wandered in another direction (maybe consciously). My attention fell on the next First Lady of US Mrs Michelle Obama. Now I dont know anything about her except what I have written already above. So what has she done to deserve this night? My answer - She just married the right guy! (the unstinting support, iron pillar of strength, better half, lodestar, beacon in a dark night metaphors come later right??)

Since this blog's readership is overwhelmingly women (quite a few married), I am sure my question and my answer above would evince varied, argumentative responses. Ladies, do spare a moment and drop in your comments. And may I pray for your night to come as well :-)

She's a'pallin'g

That my joblessness drove me to check out Governor Sarah Palin confirms two things - Either Pakistan's Asif Ali Zardari is correct or there is some short circuit in my cranial innards. I shall risk the latter!

I happened to check out the US Vice Presidential debate between Biden and Palin. Incidentally, it was the most watched vice presidential debate in US history. I am sure someone in Pakistan would have been glued to the screen as well. However, I left it after 20 mins coz I had found what I really wanted to know. That brings me to the title of this blogpost. I saw in Sarah Palin a reflection of myself some years back in B School.

Me: (presenting a business plan) So you see, the company needs to increase revenue. It also needs to be ahead of the competition by introducing new products.
Professor: So what is the amount of capital budgeting you suggest and how much leverage?
Me: (ants in my pants) Well I would like to draw your attention to the distribution network of the company...

Now, I am not a stakeholder in the American Presidential elections so it really does not matter wether unilateral trade from Pakistan to the US increases ten folds as a result of Sarah Palin's ascension as deputy to the most powerful man on earth. But if that really happens, I am glad for the future of Indian politics, which until now enjoys the global benchmark in quirkiness.

How I dearly wish back here in India, we citizens could have the joys of a nation wide open debate between the job hopefulls. Imagine a Mayamati vs Mulayam, a Lalu vs Uma Bharti open air amphitheatre performance. Sadly, we shall have to be content with the American politickle scene and errrr... guest appearances from Pakistani Don Juans.
