UAEphoria versus UAEthanasia

United State of America, United Kingdom .. great but whats united in United Arab Emirates. This is a country, me presumes. This Arab mirage reminds me of the India in the 18th century, Peshwas, Holkars, Scindhias who huddled under the umbrella of one word called ‘Marathas’ to fend themselves from the scorching British sun.
A few days back, I was beating my head at a presentation “FDI inflows in UAE”. An exhaustive scout of the virtual cosmos through the vehicle invented by Larry Page and Sergey Brin ( Google! ) revealed to a dismayed me that this desert paradise
1. Does not have an official website
2. Does not promulgate GDP, inflation, employment .. well about FDI hahaha
3. Does not state official figures for industry sectors.
4. Believes in sacrosanct secrecy of all business data like market size, share, growth.

Hats off to one man whose vision towers higher than all skyscrapers put on top of one another. Sheikh Zayed. On my maiden flight ( I was more terrified than a cocker spaniel put against a bloodhound in a eat-to-death contest ) .. the sight of a paradise amidst the vastness of nothingness was simply breathtaking. One must not dismiss that this ‘jannaat’ is islanded by extremist countries like Saudi Arabia, Jordan. Over 100 nationalities proliferate this arid man-made ecology. Work and Women are respected. Actually Arab culture has no place for women .. only ladies J. The construction blitzkrieg across Dubai would sobriquet it as the ‘Manhatten of the Gulf’ in five years time.

Its a gamble they're playing at. They've entrusted everything to one man's vision. But before anything that he is, he's just a man, he's fallible.
But one things for sure. no matter what they do, this place will always be artificial, it'll never have the earthiness of India.
